Maldives Police Service announces the creation of a special task force to suppress violent crimes. This comes in the wake of fresh knife attacks on 5 persons in 3 days in the capital city.
Minivan News, in covering this development, had called me and incorporated some of my views in its piece.
Here are few issues that I think are proving the police to be ineffective:– Fragmented in approach to tackle crime over all without a clear approach/style.
– Still seen very reactive.
– Not effectively targeting high risk/violent offenders.
– Poor at visible policing.
– Not carrying out patrols targeting hotspots.
– Low public confidence in police.
– Poor arrangements to record and manage policing information; crucial to proactive targeting of offenders and preventing crime.
