Anarchy of the Mind…: Something that constantly gets on my nerves while on Tumblr:
In the activist blogosphere here, there seems to be a rampant reduction of all human culture to a sociological construct. While societal structures are obviously sociological constructs, they have quite strong biological roots. Unforunately, the anthropocentric worldview kicks in and people assume that humans are somehow above their biology.
The abolishment of these structures, while possible and in many cases appropriate, is oftentimes completely ignorant of the fact that these things are literally encoded in each and every one of our cells. For instance, to act as if there is no inherent difference between those with an XX and those with an XY chromosome is completely asinine. 5000 years ago, there was no grand meeting of all the men in the world to hatch a secret plot to form a male-dominant society; rather the societies that had male dominance in the field (of both militant and agricultural varieties) were the ones that survived, therefore creating the so-called “patriarchy”.
While this is by no means an excuse to carry on such behavior, it is ignorant to act as if females “motherly” instinct is purely something that society encourages, rather than an actual physiological impulse of the strongest sort. The absolute abolishment and post-modern deconstruction of hugely influential aspects of society must be done in such as way as to allow these impulses to appropriately be followed, rather than acting as if these things do not exist.
